You're Invited to the #KnowYourCharacters Twitter Party!

Update: What's a party without prizes? I've added a giveaway. See the right sidebar for details. There are 2 ways to enter: click either on "Tweet about the giveaway" or "Leave a blog post comment".

Also, I do not mind at all if other authors decide to do their own giveaway and use this event to promote it.

I've attended a couple of twitter parties recently, mostly as a lurker because I wanted to see how it's done. They were a lot of fun and looked pretty easy to do, so I decide to throw my own.

When: Throwing the proverbial dart at the calendar, I've chosen July 16th at 3:00 Central US time. (That's Chicago time for those of you who aren't as familiar with the US time zones.)

Who's invited: Fiction authors and readers. Since my audience is mostly historical romance aficionados, you can expect they will make a strong showing. However, if you write or read some other genre, you are more than welcome. You can even tweet out the invitation and invite your own following.

How to join: My party will be pretty informal so no need to RSVP. Of course, if you want to let others know you'll be there, feel free to comment below. And, of course, spread the word on Twitter.

Theme: As authors, it's important for us to really get into our character's heads. We'll be chatting about the best ways to do that. The hashtag to use is #KnowYourCharacters.

How to participate: That's the easiest part of all. I'll be throwing out questions for fellow partiers to answer. You just reply to the tweet. It's kind of like a hanging out at a virtual cocktail party except you don't need to try to fit into that little black dress.

Important Note: For me, the best way to participate has been to enter the assigned hashtag (#KnowYourCharacters) in the Twitter search box. Then, I refresh my screen every now and then to see what's new. You can also follow a hashtag using tools like HootSuite.

If you'd like to add your own questions, you can do that too. Just remember to use the hashtag #KnowYourCharacters so other party-goers can easily find your tweet.
