Review: Courting Cassandry

This is the first book I've read by Joyce DiPastena, and I enjoyed it immensely. First, let me say that I received a review copy of this work in exchange for an honest review. I accepted with some trepidation because I am never anything less than honest in my reviews, and I don't like to write a review if I can't give a work at least 4 stars. (3 stars is my threshold for historical non-fiction.) I could tell by the first few chapters this was not going to be an issue.

Hero - Probably one of the sweetest heroes I've encountered in a long time. While definitely not a beta male, he's a man who is in control of his alpha side. Perhaps because he's so guided by his sense of honor. I just love that in a man.

Heroine - I really appreciate levelheaded heroines, and Cassandry comes across

the way you would expect a well-grounded woman with a daughter on the verge of adulthood to behave. There comes a point in life when one's responsibilities and obligations must take precedence.

Despite Cassandry and Gerolt being well behaved, there is plenty of sizzle between them. Note: this is also a clean romance so no need to skip over (or pour over if that is your inclination) page after page of intimate details.

The prose is beautifully written as well. There were a couple of words that sounded modern to my ear, but I think I'll give the benefit of the doubt to an author that has a degree in medieval studies.

I'm giving Courting Cassandry five stars for two reasons. First, it was entirely my cup of tea. Second, because I cannot think if a single thing I would change. It's been a long time since I've been compelled to click my iPad on at 3 AM just so I can keep reading. Well done, Ms. DiPastena!
